Michele Bernhardt became The Bay Institute's Communications Director shortly after its acquisition of Aquarium of the Bay in June 2009.  She was previously Communications Director for the Aquarium for the two and half years preceeding its acquisition. An award-winning communications professional with nearly 30 years experience, Bernhardt has served as vice president at consumer and technology PR agencies in New York City, Chicago and Silicon Valley, and led global communications programs for Schlumberger Ltd. She did pro bono work as an Account Director at the Taproot Foundation, where she led teams of volunteers creating websites and collateral for nonprofits. She studied Journalism at the University of Missouri and Communications Design at Parson's School of Design.
